In a nutshell: I have no idea what the name GRID is supposed to mean.

0:00 I’ve heard this game compared favorably to MotorStorm and Dirt, two other driving games I enjoyed quite a bit.

0:01 “CODEMASTERS PRESENTS” some generic shots of European cities and tracks. Extremely shiny car porn commences, complete with extreme camera shaking during some spectacular crashes. Nice shots from inside the cockpit and wheel well. My wife Michelle watches from the couch: “I’m not the demographic, but it doesn’t even seem like good car porn to me.”

0:02 “Please Press Start,” the screen says. So polite! Most games would just order me to press start. “Welcome. Please fill out your driver profile,” says a semi-robotic female voice. I enter Drivey McDriverson, causing Michelle to say, I’m “very predictable.” What can I say?

NEW YORK (FORTUNE) — Talk about your summer scorchers.

One month after its debut, Apple’s new iPhone has hit the 3 million sold mark, according to analyst Michael Cote of the Cote Collaborative.

“They are seeing unprecedented demand,” says Cote, adding that there appears to be no signs of a let up yet. Cote, a former T-Mobile executive, has been extremely accurate with wireless predictions in the past.

An Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) spokesperson declined to comment on Cote’s projections.

The blistering sales pace of Apple’s new gadget defies the otherwise downward trends in consumer spending, employment levels and overall economic health. The 3 million figure is much higher than Wall Street analysts had anticipated. Forecasts called for total quarterly sales of three million to four million.

Three days after the new iPhone’s July 11 debut, Apple announced that it had sold 1 million iPhones. For comparison, it took 74 days for the original iPhone to hit the one million sold mark. The new 3G iPhone has already sold nearly half as many as the original iPhones in total.

Three big factors seem to have helped juice sales.

As Fortune.com first reported, the price of the iPhone was cut in half, and with a $199 price tag - excluding the $2,400 wireless subscription costs over two years - it put the phone within reach of a much broader market than the original $400 iPhone.

Second, the new iPhone got to capitalize on the consumer enthusiasm for the original iPhone’s touchscreen design. Mobile phones are very much a fashion statement, and touchscreens are hot. A good comparison is Motorola’s Razr, which ushered in the ultrathin style and sold 100 million units.

Another big boost is geography. International sales have helped take the iPhone to places it hasn’t been before. The new iPhone is selling in 22 countries and Apple said last month that it was “confident enough” that it will launch sales in 20 more on Aug. 22, with a target of 70 by year end. The original iPhone was sold in four countries.

But analyst Cote predicts that Apple will find it challenging to keep current outlets supplied while attempting to take on even more. “The demand is so strong it may impact or delay the new countries coming on,” Cote says.

That probably isn’t the worst problem Apple could face.

We’re talking XpressMusic, so we just have to say it: the 5320 makes a notable step up in audio quality. Still not the best in business, but it’s way to go. The distinct youthful appeal is both a blessing and a curse, as it may put off those who favor smartphone power over music skill. There’s some questionable design decisions too. They got rid of the swivel and, however subjective, possibly lost some of the charisma. Plus, the 5320 is definitely low key even compared to the way more modest 5310.

The 15-months-old 5700 was well due for an upgrade, so a youthful music-centered Symbian phone has its reasons to hope for a success. The improved sound quality, FP2, the doubled RAM and the more compact size sound right but the 5700 has stereo speakers, and a better display and keypad.

The lack of Wi-Fi however is still a downer and so is the smallish display. We do agree that there aren’t many Symbians in this price range to feature Wi-Fi but that doesn’t make the 5320 any less exposed to pressure.

The 5320 stays faithful to the XpressMusic-on-Symbian concept and makes it hard to decide whether smartphone strength or the music heart give it the extra edge. It sounds like we grew older overnight, but this time the young targeting somehow just couldn’t have been more distinct. With that in mind, Nokia 5320 was just released and even a small price drop in the coming weeks may do wonders for it.
