social If you ever wanted to know how people are storing or sharing content on the web, this graph says this all. It shows a list of most popular social services that are used by netizens to share or save web pages.

social-bookmarks

Email continues to be the most favorite mode for sharing links on the Internet followed by Facebook and Digg though its a formidable lead.

These statistics are provided by ShareThis and if you compare these numbers with what AddThis provided an year ago, you’ll see an interesting trend:

1. More people prefer sharing links on social networking sites like Facebook or MySpace rather than the regular social bookmarking services like delicious.

2. Windows Live is gaining ground and appears almost as popular as Google Bookmarks. The gap was very wide last year.

3. Don’t discount Technorati yet. It looks like lot of people do add blogs / websites to their "Technorati Favorites" and it’s more popular than say Diigo, ma.gnolia.com or Mixx.com.

adsense A common perception among website publishers is that Google AdSense program offers very low CPM rates vis-a-vis other advertising networks that hire their own sales team but are open only to a limited set of publishers.

Tim Carter, a former carpenter, writes this popular site called Ask The Builder on topics related to home improvement and it averages around 40,000 unique visitors per day. He was also featured as a case study on the official AdSense blog.

While Tim didn’t reveal his daily earnings in the AdSense blog, he recently told Vauhini Vara that these 40,000 unique visitors help him earn around $2000 per day. Assuming that average number of pageviews per unique visitor on AskTheBuilder is 2, Tim’s AdSense account is reaping him a healthy $25 CPM (2000/40*2).

Other than writing good and useful content that helps him draw this level of traffic, Tim’s site targets a specific niche (home improvement) and the placement of Google Ads on his site is near perfect. All these factors combined help him command such an impressive CPM on the AdSense network.

The equation {AdSense = Low CPM} may just be a myth, after all.

paper-shred

You may feeling safe after tearing all those “secret” documents into tiny strips of paper using the shredding machine in the Office but wait, there’s a Windows software that can recreate the originals even from those torn noodle-like pieces.

Called Unshredder, this software analyses all the torn pieces of paper and reconstructs the original document without requiring human intervention.

Of course you’ll first need to scan those pieces into the computer using a scanner machine but this is anytime more efficient method than asking an employee. Pic: Flickr.

Want your friends and family to know about stuff they should get you on your next birthday? Just create a wish list at Amazon, add those products to the wish list and send everyone a link. Simple.

amazon universal wish list

Now there’s a new feature that lets you include products from non-Amazon sites to your Wish List as well through this bookmarklet.

The process is almost as simple as saving a web page on delicious but here you don’t add tags but instead indicate the price of that item that gets displayed in your wish-list.

Once you save the product, it appears in your wish list just like any other Amazon item though it links to the original web page where you discovered that item.

Why you need Amazon Universal Wish List

Amazon Universal Wish lists are a wonderful idea but if you are looking for some more reasons to get convinced, here they are:

amazon wishlist

1. If you are residing in a country where Amazon products aren’t shipped (say India), your friends will have to do some extra homework to figure out other places where they can buy that Amazon product for you. Save them some time, locate local online stores that are selling your favorite product and put them on Amazon Universal list.

2. Amazon.com is the world’s largest online store but still you can’t find everything there (Microsoft Surface Table ?) - you can save such items to your Universal Wish list so all the things you crave for are available at one place.

3. Amazon is the largest store but not necessarily the cheapest so if you spot a good deal on the Internet, save it your Amazon Wish list - your friends and relatives will also love you for this.

4. If any of your favorite item is discontinued or goes out of stock on Amazon, use this Universal clipper to tell friends about alternate places where they can shop the same stuff for you.

Tell a Friend Tell A Friend is a brand new JavaScript based widget for blogs and websites that will enable site visitors to send a link of the current web page to their friend(s) via email or through IM like Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, etc.

Now you may ask how is this stuff any different from say, ShareThis or AddThis. True, there is some overlap but Tell a Friend service is more about email which is still the most popular way of sharing content.

Pick Addresses from Email

For instance, your visitors can pull a list of their friends who are currently online on Gtalk or AOL and directly send them a link of the current page. Alternatively, they may select one or more contacts from their address books inside Gmail, Yahoo! or Live Hotmail and send them a message with a link to the current page.

Another reason why some publishes may like "Tell a Friend" more is because it enables their visitors to customize the message before shooting it to their friends.
